Mirian Conti Piano Recital - Avant-Garde Music Movements in Argentina

The Americas Society is pleased to present pianist Mirian Conti, on
November 1, 2001 at 7:30 pm in their Salon Simon Bolivar, 680 Park Avenue
- Corner of 68th Street. Her performance is the last in a series called,
Avant-Garde Music Movements in Argentina. The program includes works by
Luis Gianneo, Gilardo Gilardi, Alejandro Pinto, Augusto Rattenbach, Jacobo
Ficher, Pedro Saenz, Juan Jose Castro and a world premiere by Hipolito
Gutierrez.

Mirian Conti, Argentine pianist and Juilliard graduate, is a musician whose
performances combine technical brilliance with originality and artistic
insight. Her latest CD release, on Towerhill, features works by Bach,
Mozart, Beethoven, and Schumann. Conti has also recorded for the Antilles
New Direction Label of Island Records several compact discs featuring works
by Mexican, Argentine, and Spanish composers. Her CD on Koch International
Classics features rarely performed piano works by Joaquin Turina. Her
website is at http://www.concertartists.com/MConti.html

This concert series explores the contributions made in 1930's and 1940's
Argentina, including the two most important avant-garde music movements:
Grupo Renovacion and Agrupacion Nueva Musica. Their founder, Juan Carlos
Paz, was a very influential musician and composer, both in Argentina and
around the world. La Agrupacion Nueva Musica's original electronic music
laboratory survives until today, and the impact of the composers of these
movements, and three generations of their students, is still felt today in
leading electronic and avant-garde centers like GEMS in Canada and IRCAM in
Paris.

General Admission tickets are $15, Students & Seniors $10. Reservations
can be made by calling 212-249-8950 ext 463 or by email at [log in to unmask]

These concerts occur simultaneously with the Society's Gallery exhibit of
Abstract Art from the Rio de la Plata, Buenos Aires to Montevideo 1933-53
