The June 2001 issue of Early American Life has an article by Trish Samford
titled "Dating English Printed Earthenwares" which is a takeoff on her 1997
article "Response to a Market: Dating English Underglaze Transfer Printed
Wares" from Historical Archaeology. Many of the illustrations in her HA
article are very dark due to poor work by the printer who converted the
photographs to digital images. The Early American Life makes up for that
by have all color prints of great quality. It is available on newsstands
for around $3.00.

A second note of interest is to HISTARCH list members is the
conference just held in Philadelphia by the Library Company of Philadelphia
titled "The Past and Future of Early American Economic History: Needs and
Opportunities." The papers for this conference are posted on their web
site and many of them are worth reading. I particularly recommend the
paper by David Hancock. The web address is www.librarycompany.org I was
sorry to see so few historical archaeologists in attendance at this
important conference. Historical archaeology is economics or it is nothing
to paraphrase and old saw.
