For a complete set, I recommend Brendel on Philips or Vox. Some list
members are not satisfied with the Vox sound, but I think it's fine.

Other complete sets of fine merit include Arrau(Philips), Barenboim(EMI
or DG), Ashkenazy(London), Kempff(DG), and Schnabel(EMI).

Les than complete sets of excellence include Gilels(DG-my favorite),
Sherman(GM), Perahia(Sony), Richter(many labels), and Kovacevich(EMI).

This is a treasure of the classical repertoire, and no one recording can
provide all the riches of these works. My personal advice would be to get
no more than one complete set at this time(Brendel-Vox), and also purchase
some Gilels and Richter. There are so many ways to go that you can hardly
lose. Whatever you do, do not waste your time and purchase any O'Conor on
Telarc(highly pedestrian). Even Bernard Roberts on Nimbus is preferable
mainly due to that great Nimbus sound.

These are only my views. Others will likely advice differently.
