I gave birth in May, 1999 at Bon Secours St. Francis Xavier Hospital in
Charleston, SC. Despite this being my third child, I was told repeatedly
that I could not keep my son in the bed with me while I slept. As I am a
light sleeper and felt very secure in the bed, I continually disregarded
what they told me. Of course, I am usually a pill and grew up in that
hospital as my mother was a nurse there for 25 years. While I was able to
ignore them, your average new mother doesn't think they have a right to do
as they please with their own child.
