Dear Suzanne:
Regarding the mother who was concerned that nursing her child had
somehow contributed to her daughter's unusually early maturation -- I'm
posting an *extremely* vague reference in hopes that it jogs someone's
memory to provide better information. Several years ago, the New York
Times ran a great health page article about breastmilk's active
ingredients, still being discovered. The title was something like "A
Potent Cocktail of Hormones." Anyway, it mentioned one researcher's
theory that hormones in breastmilk helped regulate all kinds of
development and artificial feeding was contributing to earlier
adolescence. (Though I have read things lately that suggest that the
"epidemic" of girls maturing extremely early has been exaggerated.
Anyway, hope someone has a better reference...
Margaret
