yeah - i'm still thinking german here: "denkmaeler" in the laws - whereas
"kulturgueter" doesn't really get mentioned - in england you get "standing" and
"protected" monuments and so on, which is probably what got me stuck thinking of
this in terms of direct translation -
        but that's probably the best solution so far: just sidestep the issue a
bit -
