Dear all:
I want to share a recent experiece at the "Art of Birthing 2" conference,
which was two weekends ago in New York City. First, it was very exciting
to see that well over half of the audience, which was made up of midwives,
midwifery students, doulas, educators, and other interested parties,
appeared to be my age (35) or younger. And they were passionate about the
subject of empowerment and birth (and breastfeeding). When Suzanne Arms
said, "Breastfeeding is not a choice," she received a standing ovation. I
am new to this field and I have never felt so much positive energy in one
room, and I must add, it was so refreshing to see the compatibility among
the speakers--not the nasty sense of hypercompetition that I have grown used
to in my day job. It made me feel very proud to be among such women, and
very inspired to go and tell the world that change is coming!
