After shooting my mouth off earlier on this subject, I had a brief
chat with our invitro nurse and the following information she
mentioned may be of interest:
1. When inplantation takes place the natural route, the uterus has
been "primed" to accept the implantation. With artificial
implantation, that environment needs to be achieved artificially.
It may be that the docs felt achieving the right balance of hormones
would either be harder or not work with breastfeeding impacting on
mom's hormones. They may have questioned the safety of hormones
given to the mom to prepare the uterus - different levels than she
experiences naturally in a natural implantation.
2. 3 months without nursing seemed like a longer than needed time.
3. Why is it necessary to destroy the remaining embryo? Apparantly
some centers allow the parents to sign forms renewing the storage
(perhaps at an additional cost?)

The docs in this situation may well be overreacting, but at least
now I have a little better understanding of how they may have come
to their position.
