I am a life member of SHA and usually a member of SAA, ROPA, Benefactor
member of the Arkansas Arch Society and member of 6-12 other societies such
as Soc. for Industiral Arch, Soc. of Bead Researchers, and
regional/state/local socieites. To me, supporting the Societies that I
believe in (I am usually sucked into them by a good journal or series of
articles), is simply a matter of putting my money where my mouth is. Now
that I am older (boy, Howdy!), I have been able to afford life memberships
in several socieites. When I was younger, living in a series of
apartments, trailers, forest circus bunkhouses, ect., the best I could do
was a single national socieity, one regional socieity and one state
society. That became harder once I lost my student rates and had no
permanent address. Another reason that I got into joining as many
societies as I could was employment for the BLM and Forest Service, usually
out in the middle of nowhere. One had lots of reading time and it kept you
from feeling that you were falling behind the general level of information
that anyone had.

The world will proceed just fine no matter what political hacks the two
parties are foisting off on us. :-)

It is easier to get forgiveness than permission.

How many SHA members are SAA members? Most folks that I know are members
of one or the other, not both. For myself, my wife is a member of SHA, I'm
a member of SAA, but neither of us is a member of both-- mostly as a matter
of economics.
