In large part because *they* don't know.  The parents don't.  Virutually
everyone believes that breastfeeding is best, but they feel that formula is a
perfectly acceptable alternative....so if bfeeding is too difficult, or if
dad/family/etc like to give baby bottles of ABM, then that's okay too.

The moms that come home from the hospital's around here are often put on
intensive pumping routines to 'increase their supply', but never told that
they could simply breastfeed more often.  The pumping is a hassle and mom
chucks the whole thing.
