I've been listening again to Witold Lutoslawski, and am finding him far
less challenging than I used to.  Of course, I wouldn't be without his
superb 2-piano Variations on a Theme by Paganini.  I also have his Dance
Preludes and like them all right.  More to the point, though:

An EMI disk I've had for years, with him conducting his symphonies 1 and
2 and the Symph Variations, is often beautifully noisy and dynamic.  Aside
from its muscularity, I also enjoy his sense of humour -- as in the false
ending to the #2 -- though I still find the overall sense of disarray
pretty extreme ...but, again, not too off-putting.  Hang-on-to-your-hat
music.  I also listened to the #1, and felt about the same, all told.

Would any Lutoslawski fans like to recommend where to, in his music, from
here?
