<< Regarding the question about a 3 month old infant and a 33 hgb level. The
33 is actually the hematocrit level. According to Harriet Lane Handbook,
the normal hgb level for a 2 month old is 11.2g and the hct is 35%. For a 6
month old, the hgb is 12.6g and hct will be 36%. From 6 month-2yrs., the
hgb will be 12.0g and the hct 36%. My question is "Is this baby being
exclusively breastfed or on a formula (low iron?). Hope this info helps >>

This baby is 2 mos and exclusively bf.

My remaining question is, how low a hematocrit (eg, how far below 35 or
whatever) warrants supplementation in an exclusively bf baby? A smidge
below? or only vastly below?

In particular, if any docs out there would comment on their own practices I'd
appreciate it. (Gail? Rob? Jack? Alicia? anybody?)
