Laurie,
Kathy mentioned women choosing inductions for various (albeit dubious)
reasons. I think another is the fear of labor and birth altogether. If you
are induced, you are immediately under the control of the medical model.
There is absolutely no need to tune into your own body, read its signals,
follow a primal path. You have no responsibility and can be completely
dependent on the technology and the direction of others. You can be "induced"
and then "augmented" and finally "delivered". I think this is extremely
seductive to many, many women and their partners.
