Hi...  I think you know about the Arabic instrument called 'Ud' or 'Oud'.
This instrument has 10 strings with big body.  The performer put it on his
lap and plays with his right hand.

I heard a recording of Beethoven's Symphony No.5 using 8 Uds.  It was very
nice experience.
