For those of you ignoring the REALITY on the breast issue, I recommend
considering the following:

1) History is filled with multi-cultural breast exploitation of women by men,
and men by women. Breasts are a powerful unit of warmth, sustenance and this
mutual mult-cultural cross-gender exploitation. Prostitutes and "John's" do
NOT generally trade for toes, although feet can be sexy. Today we have
HOOTERS + WET T-shirt competitions. Yesterday were HAREMS + HARLETS. History
is filled with MANY cultures that adore and/or exploit the breast. Some
cultures are just better at hiding them than ours. In MOST cultures
throughout history, breasts have played an important role in sexuality AND
nurturing. To wish for and suggest anything less (i.e. a single role vs. dual
role) is to display BF/LC fanatacism which will cause LCs to LOSE current and
potential BF/LC allies.

2) Solomon (B.C.) wrote numerous sexually compliments about BREASTs -- "Thy
two breasts are like two young roes that are twins, which feed among the
lilies"

3) C. C. Colton (Lacon 1820)  may have said it best, "The reason why the
bosom of a beautiful woman is an object of such peculiar delight arises from
hence: that all our first pleasurable sensations of warmth, sustenance, and
repose are derived from this interesting source."

4) Suggesting that we struggle against viewing the breast as a sex object is
like trying to stop a flowing river......when it is much easier to redirect
the flow than to dam it (or "damn it"). Mutilating feet is a different issue
than stopping human urges--cultural, biological or otherwise.

5) I will not participate, nor will the majority of male DDSs, MDs, or
otherwise in such fanatical concepts.  You won't find groups of men
supporting their "partners" BFing in a McDonald's or HOOTERS enmass in our
lifetime.  Men are more logical (women more emotional), and understand the
potential for damaging a business with such overzealous action.  Public
displays as such WILL NOT turn the publics negative image of BF
positive....anymore than women using men's bathrooms in the 80s did!

6) I can support, promote and advocate BF, especially exlcusive for 3-6
months minimum, with a positive approach.  But that and any other support
will be harder to effect if BF zealots continue to espouse a "whip-it-out"
"in-your-face" attitude in public that WILL NOT WORK to general advantage.  I
do realize many LCs prefer to continue BF longer 1-5 years, so be it...my
support for 3-6 months minimum exclusive is PER  A PLETHORA of PUBLISHED
STUDY BENEFITS.

My interest on LACTNET is to learn more about BF and to find allies to
ADVOCATE BREAST FEEDING. I will discuss and promote BF for jaw formation &
general health purposes as I continue to speak at dental meetings and the
APHA this fall.  But my tone of advocation will be dimished severely if those
HCPs responsibility for BF counsel (LACNET LCs) want to BEAT THEIR CHESTS
rather than PROMOTE THEM!
