Hello all HISTARCH subscribers who are SHA members...

The 2000 Call for Nominations went out in the spring issue of the SHA
Newsletter, which many of you have just now received. The deadline for member
input into the initial slate was set at April 1. The deadline has now been
extended until Wednesday, April 26.

As noted in the "call," this year's Nominations and Elections Committee is
working to develop a slate that accurately represents the organization's
membership profile, and the results of the 1998 membership survey and an
analysis of the current board structure have been used to inform our work. In
principal we are trying for balanced regional, gender, and occupational
representation.

We invite you to submit names (of SHA members) to be considered by the
committee for the slate. Once the slate is approved, it will be posted on the
SHA website.

We need nominees for president, two SHA directors, and two Nominations and
Elections Committee committee members.

We also invite comment on the issue of whether the secretary-treasurer
position should be split and whether the presidential terms of office should
be modified. Another issue that has been raised is whether the two editorial
positions (journal editor and newsletter editor) should be elected or
appointed, and whether there should be term limits for these and other
positions.

Please submit any suggestions for nominees or other comments to the chair of
the Nominations and Elections Committee, Terry Majewski, by Wednesday, April
26. Reply OFF LIST to [log in to unmask] or call 520.721.4309.

Thank you!
