American symphony orchestras and musicians' representatives have
signed a historic agreement to make the internet their primary
distribution medium for live and recorded concert performances of
   classical music, opera and ballet.

The agreement, which follows a year of negotiations between more
than 70 of America's most famous orchestras and the musicians' union,
recognises that the era of commercially recorded discs could be
ending. The web is now poised to become the main source for privately
   purchased orchestral music.
