Hello, this is my first time to post. I have been enjoying gaining lots of
insights from reading Lactnet.
I am a pediatric nurse who added IBCLC to my repertoire last summer. I have
been working in a pediatricians office for the past almost 9 years. My
experience prior to the office included inpatient peds at Vanderbilt, being
a camp nurse for a summer in Virginia and working the nursery in our local
hospital. I have three kids, girls 12 and 9 and a son 7 1/2. I have been
the lactation specialist in our office for about 3 years.
My inquiry is about newborns with cleft lips and palates and the various
treatments used to help them feed more easily. I watched a video a year ago
about making appliances for babies so that they can create suction. This
does not seem to be the norm for treatment in the USA, though I have talked
with someone who does make them. I would be interested in feed back from
folks who have worked with these appliances in newborns and anyone who has
had experience with babies with cleft palates. I have become interested in
learning more about the pros and cons of such appliances as related to
breastfeeding infants.
You may email me privately if you prefer.
Thank you for sharing all your knowledge and comments.
Sincerely, Meg Evans,RN,IBCLC in beautiful Tennessee
