Hello:

Fort Huachuca Military Reservation in southeastern Arizona was the long term
home of a couple African-American regiments. The 10th Cavalry (and then the
25th Infantry) were resident from the late 19th century to around WWII. The
fort's official history devotes a couple chapters to the Buffalo soldiers.
For your reference, the chapters extend beyond just the African-American
soldiers stationed in Arizona. There is also a long Fort Huachuca military
history bibliography in pdf form that devotes an entire section to
African-American troops, regiments, etc (revolutionary war to present). I've
provided a few links I have below - I hope something here is of assistance.
The base archaeologist might also know of some other materials - FYI: I have
always found the personnel at Fort Huachuca to be very helpful in the past.

Subject: African-American regiments in World War I

I am looking for help in locating a list of African-American regiments in
World War I, and hopefully their unit histories. I know from local sources
that some troops were once sent to a site in Western North Carolina to help
build a sawmill complex, but I'm having no luck tracing down their
affiliation.

Any thoughts welcomed; the once source I am familiar with is Scott's
Official History of the American Negro in the World War, (on line at
http://www.coax.net/people/lwf/ww1.htm) but it hasn't helped in this case .
.
