I've always found the system used by the Penguin Guide sufficient for my
purposes, IIRC it's something like: orchestral, chamber, instrumental,
vocal, opera and alphabetised within each category, so that Piano Concerto
precedes Symphony Precedes Violin Concerto.

 From a knowledge-structuring POV it may not make a lot of sens, but it is
practical.
