I've lately been reading "Music Publishing and Patronage, C F Peters:
1800 to the Holocaust" by Irene Lawford-Hinrichsen, published by Edition
Press, ISBN 0-9536112-0-5.  In this book, the grand-daughter of the
proprietor of this famous Leipzig music publishing firm from 1900 to 1939,
when his business was "Arianised" by the Nazis, tells a fascinating story
of the relationship between Edition Peters and the many well-known and
some forgotten composers with which it did business over the years.  In
particular, it mentions Dr Henri Hinrichsen's generosity to a number of
less affluent composers, such as Grieg, even paying pensions to their
widows.  Leipzig also benefited from his generosity in the provision of
a music library, a musical instrument museum and a college for women.
A really worthwhile read in my opinion.
