Maybe the many (?) Europeans who counted themselves among the academically
correct serialists. On the other hand, the likes of Shostakovich,
Prokofiev, Rubbra, Hartmann, Simpson, Henze, Schmidt, Bentzon, Vaughan
Williams, Holmboe, Nielsen, Petterson, et al. etc.  made contributions to
the symphonic repertory that will, IMO, endure the test of time. Hardly
dead. Hardly.
