Hi,

I have been lurking on this list for a few months and
realized that I've never introduced myself, so just a
brief intro, my name is Anh Gordon, MD and I'm a
family physician in Austin, TX, currently working as a
stay at home mom now.

I just wanted to give another reference to the person
who asked for references for exclusive bf for the
first 6 months. The AAP's official policy is
exclusive bf for 6 months and at least one year of bf,
or as mutually desired by mom/baby pair.

Here is the link to the AAP's official policy, for
your pedi to read.

http://www.aap.org/policy/re9729.html

The article was written in 1997 but the AAP still
adheres to these guidelines. THe WHO references given
in another post are also excellent. Good luck
educating your pedi on this, it is really astonishing
how little pedis/FPs know about bf-ing. Be generous
and give the article to your OB and any other MDs you
know! :-)

Warmly,
Anh Gordon, MD
Austin, TX
