Dear Dalia,
The 'last 5-10 pounds' excuse worked for me for over 10 years as I was
continually nursing or pregnant, but now my yougest has been weaned
almost 2 years, so why hasn't that last 5-10 gone away? ;-)

I believe the extra fat put on during pregnancy is to help sustain
lactation
IN THE CASE OF INSUFFICIENT CALORIC INTAKE IN THE MOTHER POST-PARTUM.
That
is to say -- it's not for NORMAL breastfeeding needs, it's the emergency
stockpile in case of famine or drought or crop-failure after the mother
gives birth. Therefore, one would not expect to lose it naturally in the
course of lactation if the mother has access to adequate food and is
eating
to satisfy her hunger."

And maybe that's why some women (like me) loose all the extra weight
except
for those last 5-10 lbs until they stop BF? Even when BF on demand very
frequently and more than 3 years...
