FLUTIST LAUREL ANN MAURER TO PRESENT
LEGACY OF THE AMERICAN WOMAN COMPOSER
MAJOR CONCERT OF PREMIERES AND AMERICAN FLUTE WORKS

American FluteWorks and Miyazawa Flutes will be presenting the renowned
flutist Laurel Ann Maurer in Legacy of the American Woman Composer, a major
concert of premieres and flute masterworks by American women on Saturday,
April 22 at 8:30 PM at Merkin Concert Hall of the Abraham Goodman House,
129 W. 67th St. in Manhattan.

This concert will feature two World Premieres, Jennifer Higdon's Legacy
and Marie Barker Nelson's Songs of the Moon, both of which Ms.  Maurer
commissioned especially for this concert.  She will also present Vivian
Fine's Emily's Images, based on poems by Emily Dickinson, Claire Polin's
First Flute Sonata and Gladys Nordenstrom's Rondo, all for flute and piano,
with the assistance of pianist Joanne Pearce-Martin.  Joan Tower's
Hexachords and Libby Larsen's Rondo, both for solo flute, will also be
presented.

Laurel Ann Maurer will be appearing live on WNYC-FM's radio on Thursday,
April 20 to perform and talk about the music she will be playing at the
concert.

As an award winner from such organizations as the National Association of
Composers - USA, the National Flute Association, the National Orchestra of
New York/NOA, the Chautauqua Institute and the Utah Arts Council, Laurel
Ann Maurer's artistry has taken her to appearances in the U.S.  and Europe
as orchestral soloist and in recitals and chamber music engagements.  She
has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center for
the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, which was broadcast live on the
Internet.

Laurel Ann Maurer studied with such masters as Julius Baker, Samuel Baron
and Jeanne Baxtresser and has commissioned a number of new flute works
from major contemporary composers.  She has recorded for Albany Records,
CRI, 4Tay and Soundspells, the latter with the Orchestre Philharmonique de
Monte Carlo, performing Meyer Kupferman's Concerto Brevis for Flute and
Orchestra.
