One of the arguments I've run across is that before the full expression of
the Little Ice  Age, the local Natives were located further to the north.
With the increasing cold, they were pushed south, and into direct competition
with the Vikings.  Given their deteriorated economies and isolation, the
Vikings could not compete effectively and were either killed off or absorbed.
