This always alarmes me to look for allergies, causing an itchy palate and
sometimes frequent spitting up

I hardly dare to ask, but did they check the soft palate for a small cleft?

her discomfort and the baby's antics at the breast.

This could have to do with the fuzzy way of nursing. Sometimes baby's do get
upset or fuzzy when mom does not have full attention. But I don't see how it
connects with the milk coming out of the nose. Then ofcourse the 2 mqy be
just 2 different problems. The fact that they appear on the same time or
occasion does not have to mean they are connected in cause.

How does baby respond to the formula? More restless, fuzzy, more spitting up
or less, etc. If there is allergy involved baby would probably get worse,
but if it's a mechanical problem the different way a bottle is fed could
lead to a direction to look for an answer. Then again if allergy is *also*
in the picture, some symptoms could get worse or some could be added to the
list.
