> "Babies could soon be drinking "humanised" milk from genetically modified
> cows. Scientists in Edinburgh unveiled Rosie, the GM cow that produced the
> human breastmilk protein alphalactalbumin, three years ago.
>
> Now a 20-strong herd of similar cows has been bred in Virginia by an
> American subsidiary of PPL Therapeutics, with a view to the commercial
> production of milk that could benefit babies or the elderly in as little
as
> 30 months.

> Eventually, scientists hope to use genetic engineering to humanise cow
milk
> entirely, arguing that it would be healthier for humans to drink.

> However, a goverment statement said yesterday: "There are no applications
> for any product of this nature to be used in the UK."
