I am jeolous of anyone who can get a copy of Microstation for $450.00 They
cost us approximately $3500.00 per seat. As a CAD program I think that it
is the best and the most user friendly, however it did take 8 years of an
architectural education to learn how to use it. The cost may seem
unreasonable to some of you, but in the CRM firm I worked for and here at
the Historical Society we use the program for its mapping capabilities to
document sites and for long term site management. The same system is used at
Poplar Forest and Monticello, I believe. I have always wondered if they
find employees who can use the program or if they train them in-house. The
Army and many state DOTs use it as well. What works optimally is when I can
give a site file to an archaeologists and they can plot test grids and
findings right on our database. However, I have not worked with an
archaeological firm who could do this yet.
