The news was very poorly disseminated, even here in the UK.  But in fact
the orchestra was not the full Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, but their
(Western Orchestral Society's) "other" (chamber) orchestra the Bournemouth
Sinfonietta.  I understand the players were told during a rehearsal, the
concert that night was cancelled and all the players let go!

Now many medium/small sized towns in the West of England have no orchestral
provision at all.
