It can, but it needn't.  Some of the most wonderful performances and
recordings I've heard of Bach's keyboard music have been on the piano.
But that's partly because Bach's music is so incredibly versatile.
Scarlatti on the piano can sound pretty good too, but some composers,
particularly Couperin, fall pretty flat.
