Dear ASTC listserv members,

I am looking for some career insights from established museum folks like yourselves!

I am in the process of shaping my career around museum interpretation and exhibition work. I have a Master's degree in Biology and Nature Interpretation which included the development, implementation and evaluation of an exhibit at a local zoology museum. Since obtaining my degree in 2002, I have developed and implemented a small exhibit display for the Institute of Biology at the University of Southern Denmark, and I have worked as a volunteer at the Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, NC. I am a member of this listserv, the AAM, and I monitor various museum employment resource web sites in my search for a job or an internship.

Trying to break through into the museum world with a "real job" is difficult, and after having tried for about a year, I am considering going back to school to get either a Master's or a PhD in Museum Studies. Is it your opinion that this would help me in my search for employment, or would it be overkill?

Any advice that you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

Marianne
