Have you looked into Volunteer Works? We do not use it currently but I
hope to one day have it for our volunteer database. You can email
directly from it.
Here is the website: http://www.redridge.com/. The website has lots of
useful info about the program and I have heard very good things about
the program including that it is not difficult to learn.

We are looking for a software program to manage our volunteer database.
We are interested in a program that can email automatically and allow us
to easily generate customized mass email to volunteers.  In my internet
research, I see that there are some companies (like Volgistics and
Volunteer Impact) that have online access, which seems like a great way
to interact with volunteers remotely, but I wonder about security of the
records.  Does anyone have a program they would recommend?  I'd also
like to hear some of the problems you've come across with different
programs.
