Hi Jamie,
When we ran an exhibit development class at the Museum of Science in 
Boston we began by having students review and reflect on different kinds 
of exhibits and label copy in the museum.  We also did a workshop with 
an accessibility consultant the culminating piece of which was creating 
a small exhibit with the consultant as reviewer. This was a particularly 
powerful experience for the teens, especially since our particular 
consultant was blind and traveled with a service dog. They had many 
questions for her.
We  did additional trainings on tool use and safety and we partnered 
with one of the designers from the exhibits department who acted as an 
in-house consultant for the teens.

For dipicting a job in a diorama - we would have teens interview staff 
working in different departments so that they could get to know people 
as well as jobs.  Perhaps a way to start is to have the teens interview 
someone in the particular field and ask them some questions about how 
they would see their jobs depicted.

It sounds like a great project.  Let us know how it goes.
