ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

We currently have secure wi-fi which the public can use throughout our
facility, (as well as outside) and we have an Internet cafe (which is
wired). We don't advertise it and most if its use is by employees and
guests of employees. We also use it for videoconferencing. It is set
up in such a way as to put users out on the Internet with no access to
any internal networks (except through VPN tunneling). Since we don't
advertise free wi-fi, practically no visitors use it.

The Internet cafe is used by visitors to surf the Web and has a
content filter on it (no porn sites allowed). It is also blocked from
all internal networks. The computers have locked down browsers, so
that no other applications can be run on them.

I think free public wi-fi should be available everywhere, the same as
we provide public toilets and drinking fountains. If you have limited
bandwidth, you need to keep tabs on how much usage it gets. On most
routers you can throttle different networks so they don't affect your
internal users performance.

This is probably not helpful.
