We used touchscreens as graphic panels for our theme exhibition Long may you live: it is a very good way to work with different languages, and to leave visitors the choice of asking more information.

As all the exhibits in this exhibition are barcode activated visitors had to make the language choice only at the first exhibit they encountered, we also asked for their name and adressed them by their name in all the following exhibits.

Further advantages are:
When we see that something in the text is not clear for the visitor it is easy to adapt the text
As the exhibition is travelling we don't have to reprint textpanels, only change the texts in the software

The downside is the cost and the fact that integrating a touch screen in each exhibit strongly influences the design.

We worked with embedded PC's, the software is on a flash card, we have some spare screens and embedded PC's, so when one would break down it can be replaced immediately

Hey all,

Is anybody out there doing electronic graphic panels yet? I can see lots of
reasons to do them and not to do them. Easy to layer content or provide
bilingual information are a couple of examples. The challenges being cost
and what happens when the panel is down?

Just curious,

Mike
