For those that are interested, here are some statistics regarding the NYHoS Teacher Survey:

77,815-e-mails sent to NYC teachers with link to the web survey
1,153-Number of surveys completed by NYC teachers
102-Number of surveys completed by teachers in Westchester and Nassau surrounding counties
(emails sent from individual schools who agreed to partcipate)
12 -Number of days NYC teachers participated in survey
1,255-Total number of completed surveys

26.7-Average Class Size (Grades 4-9)

The New York City school system is the largest in the United States.
Students in grades 4 and 8 are tested to assess progress toward state and city standards in
Science

Students in grades K-2 must spend at least one hour each day on math.
Students in grades 3-8 must spend at least 75 minutes each day on math.
All students in grades K-8 must have 90 minutes of reading and writing instruction each day.
Students in grades K-3 must spend another 30 minutes on word study. (phonics)
Students in grade 9 who need more support will have 90 additional minutes of reading and writing
instruction.
