hi,

I'm all in favor of building exhibits (and curriculum) around skill
practice. I think that the most successful science exhibits are active and
what better place to start designing science exhibits than from the
activities (or skills) of science. Thinking of the activity/skill that you
want to inspire as a foundation and then layering on appropriate content
works pretty well as a method (although I also don't think that there is
only one way to develop an exhibit).

This approached was at work when developing the Big Lab at the California
Science Center. Other examples of skill-based science experiences are
those from the old Swap Shop at the Liberty Science Center.
