More than 250 lines, rejected...BAAD COMPUTER!

If you really want to push this thing, go next door to the Lawrence
Livermore Lab and ask to speak to the Radiation Safety Officer. You
might be able to borrow a survey meter optimized for low energy photons.
Not just any old Geiger counter will work with these <20kV X rays. Any
time you have high voltage and a vacuum in close proximity you are more
than halfway to having an X ray machine. Even if you have nice glowing
gas in the tube, you may still have free electrons available and
remember, rapidly decelerating any ions may produce photons. Ions
include electrons, protons, nuclei of various atoms. Long ago, "The
Amateur Scientist" column in "Scientific American" described hoe to
make an X ray machine out of a discarded TV set. There were some
pictures, as well, to show how well the thing worked. Remember High
Voltages and vacuum, be very careful!
Sincerely,
