AquaVan Programmer

Nestled in the heart of beautiful Stanley Park, the Vancouver Aquarium is internationally recognized as Vancouver's leading visitor attraction, and one of Canada's foremost centres for aquatic education, research and conservation.

Based at the Vancouver Aquarium, the AquaVan delivers award-winning aquatic programs, featuring live animals, props and activities, throughout British Columbia and Alberta. Giving students the opportunity to touch a sea star, understand how a barnacle feeds, observe a hermit crab up close and discover the connections among animals, environments and ourselves.

The AquaVan Programmer is responsible for delivering programming with the AquaVan team throughout British Columbia and Alberta, maintaining program-related animals, props, and materials, leading the programming for our week-long school program, leading the development of new programs as required, and other administrative duties.

What we are looking for:
-         Teaching certificate and/or experience developing, implementing and evaluating educational programs; outreach programming experience an asset
-         Demonstrated time management skills
-         Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in the fields of formal and informal education
-         Teaching experience with students of all ages and abilities; emphasis on conservation education and marine/freshwater biology is preferable
-         B.Sc. in Biology, and/or equivalent experience with animal care, field research or conservation projects
-         Professional communication skills, written and oral
-         Strong problem solving and decision making skills
-         Commitment to continuing development and implementation of leading-edge conservation education practices
-         Familiarity with Windows, internet and email applications
-         Valid BC Drivers' License (minimum Class 5)
