Openings are also always crammed with major special events targeting specific community members: capital donors, members, press, schools, education, hospitality, etc.. All of which are vital to the community's embracement of the organization and word-of-mouth advertising. Often these events are crammed into the month prior to opening at the same time the staff are finishing facility work, developing programs, testing operations, not to mention still being hired.

Three months of a sneak preview would be ideal to spread out such events and add others to reach a wide range of markets.

i'm working with a small non-profit that is already committed to opening in early september, but then, in the worst case scenario, may be forced to shut down at the end of december, for rennovations, for the folllowing 3 months.

the question none of us can answer is what impact opening/closing will have on perception in the community. (board understands the predicament, so disappointing the board is not an issue).

this is a 21,000 square foot facility.

i'm wondering if any of you have found yourself in the same unfortunate situation, or even in the same universe!

any brilliant suggestions for mitigating the impact, short of not opening, would be more than welcome and, hey, if it works, i'll share the results with everyone!

thanks in advance!
