This is a great opportunity for an internship that will give you experience in 
learning about building museums, planning an international conference, and 
working with a board. See the description below.

The Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums (headquartered in Washington, D.C.) 
is seeking an intern to work on the Building Museums symposium, a conference 
held in Washington, D.C. in late February 2009.  This opportunity will provide 
the intern with: insight into the operations of a regional museum association; 
contact with a wide array of museum professionals and vendors who serve 
museums; valuable event planning and communication skills. 

The intern will work with MAAM Executive Director and Board members on the 
following:
-coordinating the proposal review process including organizing proposals and 
follow-up with proposers
- development of the program for the 2009 Building Museums symposium
-attending periodic program planning meetings with MAAM staff and board and 
assisting with logistics of the conference
- creating a CD Resource Guide including bibliography, speaker bios,white 
papers and other information to distribute at the conference
-serving as point of contact for speakers prior to conference -gathering a/v 
presentations
-assisting on-site at the conference with registration, room set-up and other 
appropriate duties
-evaluations post-conference from attendees and speakers

The qualified intern will:
- be familiar with standard office software such as Excel, Word, and creating 
PDFs
- be well-organized and detail-oriented
- have good communication skills
- have an interest in museum topics and/or conference planning
- basic HTML or Dreamweaver skills a plus.

MAAM will work with the intern to determine a start date and schedule for the 
internship, which will conclude in mid-March of 2009.  Much of the intern's 
work can be completed remotely and during the evenings or on weekends.
