ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

In response to Mac's question, Casey Trees Endowment in Washington, DC, uses
a GPS system to inventory trees in public spaces and track their health. The
maps are available online, along with associated data.

They were among the first to use this system and I'm sure would be happy to
refer you to the source of the software. (I'm a volunteer "Citizen Forester"
with the organization so could provide contacts off-list.)
