Bishop Museum in Honolulu is open regular hours (9am - 5pm) on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day; it's closed on Christmas.
When I was at Pacific Science Center in Seattle (through the 1990s), PSC usually closed early on Christmas Eve (around 3 PM) and was closed on Christmas Day. We did experiment in the mid-1990s with being open on Christmas Day and did get moderate attendance on the 2-3 Christmases that we were open. In part due to the fact that PSC had a big holiday event during Christmas week, PSC always had regular hours (10am - 6pm) on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
BTW, Bishop Museum has always been open on Thanksgiving, which is the one day PSC has never been open. We have a significant international tourist population in Hawaii, of course, and Thanksgiving is just another day if you're not from the USA.

Great Lakes Science Center will be closed from Tuesday, September 7 - Sunday, September 19 for annual cleaning and maintenance. Our normal operating hours will resume on Monday, September 20.
