Hi Tabitha,

If you are planning to use iPads, the current version of iOS offers Guided Access option in the settings menu that prevents people from leaving the app in which you have them and you can even limit what buttons they can use. You can learn more about it on our 21-Tech blog - http://www.21-tech.org/blog/2012/11/28/ios-6-and-guided-access/

If you are looking to just use touchscreens in general, you might want to reach out to the Open Exhibits projects - http://openexhibits.org/

Good luck,
Keith

Hello,

We want to add a few touch screens to our museum, so that visitors can access videos and more information- hopefully in a playful way. What is the favored software for doing this? Is web software the norm? We are applying for a grant, but we can't ask for salaries, so no programmer. Is there anything off the shelf, or in the museum world that we are not aware of?
Thanks in advance for some enlightenment.

Feel free to contact me directly:
