Professor Bruce Lewenstein from Cornell University's Department of Communication will discuss one framework for understanding Public Engagement with Science (PES), focusing on his four categories: educational engagement, participatory democracy, public participation in scientific research, and institutional engagement. Prof. Lewenstein will also review the CAISE ISE wiki entry for PES and some of the academic research cited there, as well as how it can support public engagement with science grant proposals. An online discussion will follow, and Lewenstein is especially interested to hear your reactions to the four categories, suggestions for changes, improvements, extensions, etc.
