Eric,

You stated your points so eloquently. I agree with you 100%. Education
is such a complex topic that is often minimalized to bullet-points and
bottom-lines ... As if there is one "cure-all" solution to the diverse
range of issues. For instance, learning styles are as varied as the
individuals that possess them, but "teaching to the test" has
marginalized this factor to the point that it has become totally lost in
the shuffle. I often hear administrators and educators in WNY (and NYS
at-large) talk about various learning styles, but it's just a buzzword
pulled from the cacophony of (pseudo-)advocacy terminology... More
pedagogical jargon that sounds impressive and meaningful in theory;
however, it is not supported by any real action in the classroom for
myriad reasons... 

I will come down off of the soapbox because I can speak to this issue
all day and get none of my "real" work done...  But I thank you all for
sharing your thoughts and conversing so candidly. I am richer for it.
