All,

The Afterschool Alliance is asking for help in identifying strong candidates for its Afterschool Ambassador<http://www.afterschoolalliance.org/ambassadors.cfm> program. Each year, the Afterschool Alliance chooses roughly 20 Afterschool Ambassadors from states across the country to help raise awareness about the need for afterschool programs in their communities. Ambassadors receive training and ongoing assistance during their terms (in this case, August 2011 through July 2012) to fulfill their mission to "make some noise" about the need for more afterschool programs in their states and communities. Over the years, they've had more than 150 Ambassadors from around the nation, most of whom remain active with the program long after their Ambassador terms have ended.

This year, the Alliance is particularly interested in finding some Ambassadors who are working with afterschool programs that emphasize STEM learning; they are looking for Ambassador candidates in the following locations:

*         Alabama (but not in the Birmingham area);

*         Florida - specifically, Orlando, Tampa/St. Petersburg, and parts of the panhandle such as Cantonment and DeFuniak Springs;

*         Minnesota - specifically, Rep. John Kline's district (click here<http://kline.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=15&sectiontree=15> for district map);

*         Montana; and

* Tennessee (but not in Nashville or Memphis).

Great candidates for these Ambassador positions are afterschool program directors or individuals who work in the afterschool field in some other capacity. The strongest candidates are self-starters who want to reach out to media, lawmakers and the public. As you consider people who would be a good fit, please keep in mind that Afterschool Ambassadors cannot be staffers and officers of the state afterschool networks.

If you have recommendations for people from these markets who might be interested in serving as Afterschool Ambassadors this year, please send their names and contact information to Anita Krishnamurthi ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>), the Alliance's director of STEM policy, as soon as possible. Her colleagues will then be in touch with recommended candidates to discuss the program, answer any questions they may have, and, if all goes well, ask them to complete a simple application.

Thanks,
Sean
