At the Academy we have worked to develop an extensive teacher website and have over the past few years have been working to transition our teachers towards using it. This is our first year going without a 30-page brochure. We are still in the evaluation stages of how it is working.

We have done this for two reasons: (1) to support our sustainability mission and (2) to save money and time in the design process.

As our teacher website has grown, we have encouraged teachers to sign up for our monthly e-news and have always collected email addresses from teachers while they register for our fieldtrips and professional development workshops. This year we have also implemented online fieldtrip applications. So far we have learned very few teachers actually have problems with the system (and we have a large sample size of 2,500+ teachers each year). We found that those who were apprehensive have still been successful.

Regarding the development side of things- there are some donors who happily fund websites just as much as print brochures and websites do provide more flexibility for updating information, providing access to more teachers and increasing the visibility of programs. For example, we can upload movies, curriculum and more.

That being said, it is still nice to have a pamphlet to hand out at fairs, workshops, etc.

last year we sent out a bunch of postcards directing people to our website, where they could read the brochure. Postcards are, of course, cheaper to print and to mail.

That said, I'm not sure how successful this was, but it's an option.

It occurs to me, particularly those who have funding sources
available, there may be a middle ground to consider? What about
small, bulk, imprinted flash drives with a copy of the pdf brochure,
and whatever other electronic info the teacher might want or need
before coming?
