Carlyn,
We just purchased 3 interactive white boards, projectors and elmo document cameras.
The three white boards were Hitachi Starboards FX-77 Duo. This came with the CPA-100 short throw projector.

The projectors are nice because when you look out at the class you don't have to stare into the light of the projector, however because they are so close to the board, they have a specially shaped mirror and it is practically impossible to get a rectangular image on the board. Any slight misalignment of the projector or imperfection in the mirror is seen on the projection on the wall.

The boards themselves have very nice features, however, again we had some issues. The board itself is laminated wood, and therefore warped between the change of seasons. Hitachi sent us replacement rails with screw slots instead of holes so it when it did expand, it would not warp the board. This has fixed the problem. One more issue is that there is a silver sticker the whole length of the top of the board, because the board expands and contracts it actually has buckled and this affects the accuracy of the optical tracking since the sensors are on the top of the board.

Overall, they are decent boards but due have some design flaws. The software is very nice and has a lot of features. Hitachi was pretty good with tech support.

We bought three different models of elmo cameras; TT-02RX (new model, TT-02s (old model), and the P30s. The P30s is a very high quality and feature rich device, it has HD output through a DVI and 60FPS camera.

The TT-02RX is also very nice but designed more for teachers and actually has a microscope attachment. It is much improved over the older TT-02s which is discontinued. We were happy with the TT-02s which is why we went with the TT-02RX ( it is also cheaper than the P30s). I believe that the TT-02 is one of the only camera's that has a microscope attachment. We were not impressed with the microscope image from the TT-02s. However, I have not tried it yet with the TT-02RX and if it is improved as much as the rest of the device has, I think it would look decent. Subject: Smart Boards, eBeams and Elmos help?

Hi Folks -

We're considering purchasing a Smart Board or eBeam for our classroom. We've not found much in the way of reviews, or folks who have used this technology, to help make a decision on what to buy.

We would also like an Elmo-type projector for showing documents in the classroom. Ideally, we would have a system where we could project documents, and also attach a microscope such that one can see small fossils, etc, projected onto the screen. However, I understand that an "all-in-one" system tends to project neither documents or specimens well, and the best thing to do is get two separate units?

Lots of sales people, not a lot of in-the-trenches reviews. Any ideas you all would have are greatly appreciated!

Thank You - Carlyn Buckler
